The Project:

For this Reno family, creating a functional outdoor space that embraced the surrounding Sierra Nevada mountains was key. They envisioned a backyard that offered areas for relaxation, entertainment, and connection with nature—all while respecting the natural beauty around them. FireSky took charge of each project phase, delivering an inviting outdoor oasis that combines sophistication, comfort, and a touch of wilderness.

Design Approach: Thoughtful Planning and Mid-Project Adaptation

From the start, FireSky’s design team worked closely with the family and the project architect, visiting the property and crafting a plan that harmonized with the home’s architecture and stunning mountain backdrop. Listening to the family’s aspirations, we developed several design options, empowering them to choose a path that reflected their unique vision. Partway through the project, the team, through collaboration with the project architect, made a strategic pivot, reorienting the focal point of the outdoor living area to align perfectly with the mountain views from the indoor living room. This change brought a new level of indoor-outdoor connectivity that the family loved, while maintaining the architect’s “open view” vision of the Sierra Nevada.

Construction Highlights: Crafting Every Element with Purpose

FireSky’s dedication to natural harmony shines through in each feature of this backyard retreat. Highlights include:

• A Raised Fire Pit on Gravel
  Set on a rustic gravel plain, this fire pit provides a cozy spot for family gatherings, offering warmth and ambiance against a backdrop of sweeping views of Mt. Rose and Slide Mountain.

• A Stunning Stone Water Feature
  Using natural boulders [located on site], we crafted a water feature that adds both elegance and serenity, enhancing the backyard’s aesthetic without detracting from the landscape’s natural beauty.

• A Custom-Built Pergola for Outdoor Dining
  The natural wood pergola, paired with earth-toned pavers, provides ample space for dining and social gatherings, with soft lighting and shade to support day-to-night enjoyment.

This sanctuary moves lucidly from element to element. Together, these features create a tranquil flow from space to space. Lush green grass and vibrant shrubs offer pops of color that contrast beautifully with the earthy stone and gravel textures, enhancing both the functionality and aesthetics of the backyard. Each component of this project complements the overall aesthetic and functionality of the backyard and the gorgeous Sierra Nevada views beyond it. 

The home’s outdoor space is now a true extension of their lifestyle—a sanctuary where they can relax, entertain, and fully embrace Reno’s stunning mountain scenery.
